Children’s Eye Test Near Me in Elstree
Children use their vision constantly, whether they are learning in the classroom, reading at home, playing with friends or exploring the world around them. When their eyesight is not as clear or comfortable as it should be, they may not always know how to describe what they are experiencing.
Instead, parents might notice small changes. A child may avoid reading, become frustrated with detailed activities or change the distance at which they hold books and screens.
At Eye 2 Eye Opticians, we provide professional children’s eye tests near Elstree, with an approach that puts the individual child at the centre of the appointment. Our experienced optometrists take time to make younger patients feel comfortable while assessing their vision and providing clear information to parents.

When Everyday Behaviour May Point to a Vision Concern
Children can become accustomed to the way they see. They may not realise that another way of seeing is possible, particularly if a visual issue has developed gradually.
Parents may therefore notice behaviour before hearing a direct complaint.
Things worth paying attention to can include:
- Holding books unusually close
- Sitting near the television or tablet
- Squinting at distant objects
- Tilting the head when looking at something
- Rubbing the eyes frequently
- Avoiding reading or drawing
- Losing their place while reading
- Complaining about headaches after close work
- Finding classroom material difficult to see
These signs do not necessarily indicate an eyesight problem. Children can behave this way for many reasons.
However, if you have noticed a consistent change, a professional eye examination can help provide a clearer picture of your child’s visual needs.

Clear Answers to Eye Health Care Questions
The appropriate timing can depend on the child's age, development and individual circumstances. If you have concerns about your child's vision, speak to an optometrist for personalised guidance.
Signs can include squinting, sitting very close to screens, difficulty reading, headaches or changes in visual behaviour. However, some children may have no obvious symptoms.
Not necessarily. An examination determines whether there is a vision or eye-health concern that requires attention. If glasses are appropriate, the optometrist can explain why and discuss suitable options.
Children's examinations are adapted to their age and ability to communicate. The optometrist uses suitable methods to assess their vision and visual development.
