Children’s Eye Test Near Me in Northwood
Good eyesight is part of a child’s everyday development. From recognising letters and pictures to playing games, reading stories and exploring their surroundings, children rely on their vision throughout the day.
Parents can sometimes find it difficult to know whether their child is seeing comfortably. Young children may not realise that their eyesight could be clearer, particularly if a change has happened gradually.
At Eye 2 Eye Opticians, we provide professional children’s eye tests near Northwood, with a friendly approach designed around younger patients. Our optometrists take time to understand each child and provide parents with clear information about their visual needs.
Whether your child is having their first eye examination, you have noticed a change in their behaviour or you simply want professional reassurance, our team can help.

What Parents May Notice at Home
A child may not tell you that something looks blurred or uncomfortable. Instead, changes in eyesight can sometimes show themselves through everyday habits.
You may notice your child:
- Frequently moves closer to screens
- Holds books unusually close
- Squints when looking across a room
- Tilts their head while looking at something
- Rubs their eyes regularly
- Avoids reading or drawing
- Loses their place while reading
- Finds detailed activities tiring
- Complains of headaches after concentrating
- Has difficulty seeing things at a distance
These behaviours can have many possible causes and do not necessarily mean there is a problem with eyesight.
However, when a change persists, an eye examination can provide useful professional insight into your child’s vision.

Clear Answers to Eye Health Care Questions
The appropriate timing can depend on the child's age, development and individual circumstances. If you have concerns about your child's vision, speak to an optometrist for personalised guidance.
Signs can include squinting, sitting very close to screens, difficulty reading, headaches or changes in visual behaviour. However, some children may have no obvious symptoms.
Not necessarily. An examination determines whether there is a vision or eye-health concern that requires attention. If glasses are appropriate, the optometrist can explain why and discuss suitable options.
Children's examinations are adapted to their age and ability to communicate. The optometrist uses suitable methods to assess their vision and visual development.
