Children’s Eye Test Near Me in Stanmore
A child’s vision can affect much more than reading. Seeing clearly can help children participate comfortably in lessons, recognise faces, enjoy hobbies, play sport and explore their surroundings.
Because children are still developing, they may not always realise when something about their vision has changed. Instead, parents might notice that their child is squinting, avoiding certain activities or changing the way they hold books and screens.
At Eye 2 Eye Opticians, we provide children’s eye tests near Stanmore with a patient and reassuring approach. Our experienced optometrists assess each child according to their individual needs and explain the findings clearly to parents.

Could Your Child’s Vision Be Affecting Everyday Activities?
Children can be remarkably good at adapting to visual difficulties. A child who struggles to see clearly at a distance may simply move closer. A child who finds close-up work uncomfortable may become reluctant to read.
That is why parents’ observations can be valuable.
You may want to consider arranging an eye examination if your child:
- Squints or closes one eye when looking at something
- Moves unusually close to books or screens
- Struggles to see information from a distance
- Frequently rubs their eyes
- Complains about headaches after reading
- Avoids drawing, reading or other detailed activities
- Loses their place when reading
- Becomes tired during visually demanding tasks
These behaviours can have many possible explanations. They do not necessarily mean your child has a vision problem. A professional eye examination can, however, provide useful information about their eyesight.

Clear Answers to Eye Health Care Questions
The appropriate timing can depend on the child's age, development and individual circumstances. If you have concerns about your child's vision, speak to an optometrist for personalised guidance.
Signs can include squinting, sitting very close to screens, difficulty reading, headaches or changes in visual behaviour. However, some children may have no obvious symptoms.
Not necessarily. An examination determines whether there is a vision or eye-health concern that requires attention. If glasses are appropriate, the optometrist can explain why and discuss suitable options.
Children's examinations are adapted to their age and ability to communicate. The optometrist uses suitable methods to assess their vision and visual development.
